Widows Multiplying

As a result of the war in Ukraine the number of widows is multiplying every day due to the many casualties on the frontline.
From relatively small beginnings the SGA Widows’ Project has grown and developed, and is today a major part of our Crisis Response ministry.

SGA’s help is offered to those who have lost their marriage partners in a variety of circumstances – through death by natural causes, through conflict and war, and in the Islamic context, through expulsion and abandonment by husband and family because of their faith in Christ.

The distribution of SGA’s aid has been a wonderful blessing to Ukrainian widows.

Valentina is an unbeliever, a refugee in Moldova from Eastern Ukraine. She started visiting the church in her village, where she was provided for in her desperate need. One Sunday a church leader saw her crying throughout the whole service, and asked ‘Why are you crying?’ She answered that God touched her heart. Opportunity was taken to explain to her the need to repent and turn to Jesus, and she promised to think about this. She had never been to any church before, but God used the war to bring her into contact with the Gospel.

As a result of the war in Ukraine the number of widows is multiplying every day due to the many casualties on the frontline. We understand that the battlefield deaths could be numbered in hundreds every week.

Already substantial funds have been provided to churches for distribution among widows. With the winter approaching the Mission is aware that the growing crisis will impact the most vulnerable in society – widows and orphans.

We are mindful of God’s command to take care of the widow and orphan. With you, our partners in mission, we will be able to provide for many more needy people.
