Donat and Barbara Ficsor, leaders of the Good News Foundation in Orgavany, Hungary, are delighted that their premises can be used as accommodation for 29 Ukrainian refugees.
They originally had other plans for the centre, but these were quickly put on hold as the situation in Ukraine unfolded.
They write:
“It was not a question of whether we should help them; it is our priority at the moment to help those who are leaving their country and who find themselves in great need.”
In addition to the ministry among refugees, plans are already in place to expand the work of one of the Good News Foundation’s main projects – Mary’s House. Sponsored as one of SGA’s “Phoebe” projects, Mary’s House was set up to support vulnerable mothers and their children. The staff of Mary’s House work in partnership with official agencies, child protection bodies, and pro-life foundations to offer counselling, support and encouragement to the 13 women and their children who are currently living there. The project is a lifeline to women who feel pressured to consider early termination of a pregnancy. Instead they find hope and care for their babies at Mary’s House.
The Foundation has recently begun renovations on their building, and they are temporarily housing one lady in one of the rooms above the church meeting room until the building work is complete. Just over a week ago, they welcomed a new family of five, who had just escaped from an abusive father. Two other guestrooms above the church will serve as a shelter for them while they are looking for a permanent place to stay.
In total, the Foundation is currently offering direct support to forty-two people, either through the refugee ministry, or the work at Mary’s House. Thirty-seven of these people are here for the long term, and five are hoping to leave soon to find a permanent place to live.
Please join us in praying for this vital ministry.
