It is hard to imagine the challenges that some pastors in the north of Moldova face. The country’s economic decline has resulted in an exodus of young people, and many who remain face real financial hardship.
Villages are often divided along ethnic lines, with some speaking only Moldovan or only Russian or Ukrainian. The Orthodox priest carries significant influence in local communities and is often opposed to Gospel ministry.
Pastor Sasha Polishchiuk and his wife Julia faithfully serve the Lord in Frunza, a small town just 6 miles from the Ukrainian border. Their deep desire is to see many come to know the Lord Jesus in that part of Moldova.
As well as being the pastor of a church in Frunza, Sasha also pastors two other churches in Russian-speaking villages, one of which is an hour-and-a-half drive away.
With SGA’s help, Sasha has started to reach another two nearby Romanian-speaking villages- Lencauti and Verejeni. Food was distributed to many of the widows in these villages at Easter, and summer camps are currently being organised for 80-100 local children.
The mayor is currently very appreciative of the help given to the villagers, but the Orthodox priest is also very influential in one of the villages and has previously prevented Sasha from using the local hall for outreach.
Pray for Pastor Sasha and Julia as they faithfully serve in these border villages of Moldova. May there be no hindrance to the advancement of the Gospel.
