the inside story

Mihai Chidesa – Let’s Fetz

Situated 50 miles north west of Bucharest, the Romanian city of Târgovişte is perhaps best known for the Chindia Tower, construction of which began during the second reign of Vlad the Impaler, otherwise known as Dracula.
It is also the place where the trial and execution of Nicola Ceaușescu took place on Christmas Day 1989.

For supporters of SGA it is known as the home of Mihai and Felicia Chidesa.

Mihai pastors Golgotha Baptist Church and distributes aid through SGA’s Widows Project. Furthermore, together with Cătălin Bărăscu, an English teacher and one of the elders at Golgotha, Mihai coordinates the new SGA Mission School which takes place at the church. This has recently completed its second session. A total of 24 students attended the lectures which, having covered the creation of the world, the fall of man and the subsequent descent into increasing godlessness, went on to consider the story of Noah before concluding with God’s calling of Abraham.

However, that is not all in which Mihai is involved. This exceptionally industrious pastor frequently uses the German expression ‘Let’s fetz’, meaning ‘Let’s go’, to spur himself and others on as he engages in yet more Gospel ministry.  He has initiated a TV ministry, one which SGA now supports. Together with Cătălin he produces programmes at a local TV studio which air weekly and are aimed at those who are currently non-believers. Two formats are used, with one covering core Christian beliefs, while the other involves invited guests being asked to describe how their Christian faith has transformed their lives.

Exact viewing figures for the 60 – 70 shows that have been broadcast to date are not available, but Mihai has had encouraging feedback from those who watch.  What is more, Mihai has been greeted in the street by strangers who have recognized him as the host of the show. Perhaps then Târgovişte has a new claim to fame – someone whose Gospel message is one that is far more hopeful than those who have previously been associated with his home town!
