Media reports confirm that Moldova has elected its most pro-EU government in its history. Many believe that this will open the door for reform. Pro-European president Maia Sandu called the 11th July snap election after months of obstruction following her election last year.
It is reported that the new Moldovan government’s priority will likely be anti-corruption judicial reforms. This is a first step towards securing loan support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in order to provide aid for the country’s economic recovery.
It is felt that the Moldovan government’s priorities will immediately run into opposition from Russia, which sees its geopolitical interests threatened by increasing economic co-operation with the West.
Pray that the government will, as promised, deal with corruption so that ordinary Moldovan citizens will receive accessible financial help.
