the inside story

The Deep Pain of a Widow

All I wanted was to lie in bed. I had no future, I wanted nothing, I dreamed of nothing. I can’t even remember who brought me to the church.
The war in Ukraine has resulted in tens of thousands of widows, and sadly the number is growing every day.

When Tatiana’s husband, Andriy Tkachuk, died, it seemed that she had reached the end of her road. The future appeared dark and hopeless. They had raised three sons together but now all had changed forever. Five months before her husband’s death, Tatiana’s mother passed away. This was a time of losing the closest people in her life – now she was alone.

“It was a very painful blow. When you have your family, you know that there is someone to rely on. At the time, it seemed that I had lost everything. All I wanted was to lie in bed. I had no future, I wanted nothing, I dreamed of nothing. I can’t even remember who brought me to the church. But I am very thankful to those people because, to be honest, if it weren’t for the church, I don’t know where I would be now.”

Tatiana’s life gradually started to turn around. She met people who had gone through similar experiences, and later began studying the Bible. When she was converted to Christ in 2023, her life was transformed. She can now share with others about her best friend, Jesus, who provides for all her needs.

This winter SGA is dedicated to providing for widows like Tatiana, who so often are struggling to provide for their families. With your help, together we will provide vital winter funding which will be distributed through the evangelical churches in Ukraine. Thank you!
