Even during the ongoing war, Ukrainian Baptist Union churches have continued to develop this ministry. Since the full-scale invasion began, more than 30,000 children from across Ukraine have taken part in these camps. Many have come from displaced families, military and veteran families, and homes facing financial hardship.
Many children in Ukraine are living with fear, loss, and uncertainty. Some are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioural challenges, and even suicidal thoughts. Camps can give children a few days of safety, friendship, fun, while teaching and instructing them through the Word of God.
Feedback from previous camps shows how much this matters. Children remember the games, food, activities, and new friends, but they also talk about learning to pray, discovering that God hears them, and cares for them.
Ksyusha, aged 8, shared:
I am from the city of Kamianske. I live with my mom, dad and sister. My family goes to church. This summer I had the opportunity to get to the camp. Shelling has become commonplace for us, but sometimes it becomes very scary. In the camp, using the example of the Biblical hero Joseph, I am sure that God hears me through prayers and is always there to help me. It makes me feel better. Now I know how to pray. I want to thank all the teachers. I really liked it. Thank you!
SGA is delighted to partner with local Gospel workers in churches across Ukraine to help fund these day camps. Each camp offers children a safe place to laugh, learn, be cared for, and hear the hope of the Gospel during an extremely difficult time.
