Serving in Volatile Conditions

Vasile Kovalev - Frontline Ministry

Vasile Kovalev pastors a church near the frontline in Ukraine, from where he coordinates the distribution of aid in the region. With funding provided by SGA, he can offer people parcels of food and warm clothing. Furthermore, when a village lost its gas supply to a spate of Russian bombs, all one hundred households were provided with heaters.

Further funding from SGA allowed Vasile to establish a bakery which has given employment to 14 people. Additionally, 40% of the profits from selling the bread are used to provide free loaves to those who cannot afford them, with the remaining 60% funding other humanitarian projects.

Vasile also assists the military as they evacuate families from dangerous territories so that they can settle in safer places elsewhere in Ukraine. Finding accommodation for these displaced people is often difficult, but together with God’s help, Vasile always seems to find somewhere suitable. However, his main aim is to offer salvation that is found only in the good news of Jesus Christ.

Today the Gospel is spreading with new churches being planted as a result. Before the war Vasile was supervising just two young churches, now he is overseeing six. The need then is great, but God continues to provide.

Vasile is one of the fifty missionary pastors to whom SGA has provided significant emergency funding. Pray that all these faithful servants of God will be kept safe and strong.
