Many of them have been rejected and abandoned by those who brought them into the world.
This state-run orphanage is home for over 200 children who are afflicted with mental and physical disabilities. Sadly, most are bedridden.
To care for such numbers of young people there are 275 staff members covering day and night shifts, most of them Muslims. However, one is a Christian. Vera, a local believer in Dushanbe, through her loving action for the young people and her love for her colleagues, is bearing witness to her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Vera brings the hope of the gospel into this place of despair.
With fellow believers from her church, their acts of kindness and support of the orphanage have greatly helped the young people, and also encouraged the Muslim staff.
The government of Tajikistan pays for ‘one nappy per child per day’! This is far from enough, making it very difficult for the workers to give the best care. Local believers are showing practical Christian love and care by providing the true number of nappies required – a great blessing to the disabled children and the staff also.
She longs to give the greatest of care to these young people and also to make Jesus known to her colleagues.
The spiritual environment of Tajikistan in general, and Vera’s workplace may be challenging, but she knows God has called and placed her there.
Vera needs our prayer support.
Pray for the seriously disabled young people in the orphanage. May they know that God has not abandoned them.
