the inside story

Out of tragedy comes blessing!

Afsana has been witnessing to her Muslim mother and sister about Jesus. Now four adults and up to five children are meeting in her house for fellowship around God’s Word.

A day in April changed forever the life of Afsana (name changed), a young woman from a Central Asian faith- restricted country.

Her husband and his brother, like so many from that country, were on their way to Russia to work and provide for their families. At the Belarusian border however, there was a serious traffic accident. The two brothers were killed. Afsana and her three children aged twelve, ten, and five were heartbroken.

It came to light that her husband attended church as a teenager and professed faith in Christ, but he struggled to withstand the pressure of his Muslim peers and relatives, and stopped attending. He married a Muslim woman and no longer prayed.

A few months before his death however, he began to think about God again. He told his children about Jesus and searched for a Bible. An SGA Project70 missionary was able to visit him regularly and he gratefully received a copy of God’s Word.

When he told his wife about Christ she reacted aggressively, but the children listened attentively. Following her husband’s death, Afsana simply wept when the Christians told her about Jesus. The children remembered exactly what their father had told them from the Bible.

Last November Afsana, with tears, repented before God and put her faith alone in Jesus Christ. Now she finds comfort in Christ. She attends church and the children attend Sunday School with great joy.

Out of tragic circumstances God’s blessing of salvation reached into broken hearts. Afsana, like many other widows, is provided for through SGA’s Widows’ Project, receiving food, clothes and school supplies.

We are thankful that God continues to provide for the vulnerable through your support, and He reaches their hearts with His love and mercy.
