SGA’s Communications Coordinator in Ukraine, Kateryna Nikonorova, sent the following report.
‘The churches are actively getting ready for Christmas as they organize different events. All of them strongly believe that Christmas is the best time to serve children, youth and their parents, celebrating and sharing the Good News of the Gospel, all the more during the war.
Usually, churches have a few Christmas events on different days, for example, a church in Ternopil will have a meeting for displaced people (unbelievers), a children’s celebration targeting unbelievers, street evangelism and Christmas day service. Another church plans a good children’s programme with a puppet show for around 70 children. It will be a special time with distributing gifts, singing carols, and a Christmas play, to help people forget about the realities of war just for a while. There are also special meetings for ladies: mothers and grannies. Some have special celebrations for children of soldiers who have died and children from crisis families or foster children.Â
Also, Christmas time is used as an outreach opportunity for the larger community. A church in Rivne plans to organize Christmas market, where they will tell visitors about the meaning of Christmas, and children of the church will also take an active part in it. Another church is planning to go to a local hospital to visit those who have to be there on Christmas day (civilians and military) and give them gifts and sweets.
Pray as people want to be together to hear the good news of Christmas. May many come to know the Saviour of the world.
