Camp Ministry in Ukraine

Camp ministry remains urgent as it provides children with a safe space to experience God’s love, and find hope.
During the war, Christian camps provide a vital source of renewal and comfort for children.

More than 3 million children have become internally displaced, fleeing areas of active combat, while 1.5 million face mental health challenges, a figure that sadly continues to grow. Due to the war, clubs previously organized by Ukrainian schools have closed, with state-run residential camps no longer operating. This may explain the reason why Pastor Sergey Shalinsky was inundated with applicants for camps last year. Sadly, he was unable to accept every child who wanted to attend the SGA-supported camps in the Vinnytsa region of Ukraine.

Sergey decided to give priority to those who had lost family and friends to the fighting, those who were in particular need of both the relief that the time away from the hostilities offered, and a measure of psychological healing for the trauma caused by the ongoing conflict.

Even more importantly, the camps provided a wonderful opportunity for the young people to hear the Gospel. Sergey speaks of his joy at seeing children receiving Christ.

In response to SGA’s desire to help fund camps this year,  Pastor Igor Bandura sent this message.

Our children and youth ministry team are currently working diligently to assist churches in organizing summer camps for kids, and the need for this ministry is truly immense, especially in these challenging times. We are incredibly grateful for your support last year, which made a significant impact. This year, the demand for camp ministry remains urgent as it provides children with a safe space to experience God’s love, find hope, and build community amidst the ongoing war. These camps are a beacon of light for many young hearts.

SGA is providing funds to run at least 20 camps this summer. Pray that many children and young people will find lasting peace in Jesus and His strength to live for Him.
