Beacons of Hope and Light

In desperately dark days the world needs beacons of hope and light, and that is what the evangelical churches in Ukraine are aspiring to be.

However, this winter the church in Ukraine is confronted with a very practical need. Sadly, we have been reminded again that part of the strategy of the Russian military has been to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in order to make life as difficult as possible. Some estimates state that the country has lost more than 50% of its installed capacity, resulting in almost daily power outages.

Despite the repair work and the purchase of new electricity generator equipment, the damage remains and there is a real fear of what this winter will bring.

For this reason last winter generators of various types were purchased and distributed to evangelical churches across the country. In towns and cities where so much has been destroyed, and where so much that once contributed to community is no more, the church remains a place where people can gather together and spend time with one another – a place where much needed aid can be provided, and a place where the hope of the Gospel can be shared.

The purchased generators remain on site.  However, the pressing need for this winter is fuel to power them. SGA is seeking to provide the financial support necessary in order that the lights stay on when the electricity goes off, a warm welcome continues to be offered to all who need it, and every church door remains open for the all-important work of preaching the Gospel and bringing glory to His Name. Beacons of Hope and Light!
