A Place of Mercy and Hope: Raisa’s Story
For 25 years, Tabita House in the village of Yablona, Moldova, has been a refuge for elderly people who have nowhere else to turn. Established by evangelical believers in the late 1990s, during the hardships following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the home continues to meet both urgent physical needs and deeper spiritual ones.
Today, 62 residents live at Tabita House, with many more waiting for a place. Only 17 were believers when they arrived. Most come from non-Christian backgrounds. Yet Tabita House is not only a place of care – it is a place where the Gospel is faithfully shared through daily prayer, Bible study, and the loving witness of staff and visiting churches. Each year, some residents come to faith.
One of those is Raisa Batovskaya. Disabled since childhood, Raisa was left completely alone after her husband died. With no children, no water in her home, and little strength, her life slowly unravelled. After suffering a stroke she lay helpless for days, cold and hungry. When Christians finally found her, her condition was serious.
Brought to Tabita House, Raisa was washed, fed, clothed, and given a warm bed. Slowly her strength returned. Today, she says, ‘If they hadn’t taken
me, I would have already died. Thank God for this beautiful place where I can hear about God and spend my old age with hope.’
SGA has partnered with Tabita House. Pray that all the residents would come to know the love of Christ for themselves, and in so doing experience the mercy found in our wonderful Saviour.
