With the number of those killed in Ukraine climbing ever higher, it is easy to sometimes forget about those who are left behind – the parents, the widows and the children who so desperately need support as they mourn the loss of those they loved the most.
So this summer, camps were held to help in the physical, mental and spiritual recovery of sorrowful believers. As well as chaplains and pastors, the wives and parents of previously fallen servicemen were also on hand to serve the newly grieving families. Individuals shared their personal experiences, including the spiritual aspects of suffering loss and the important role the church had played in each of their individual lives.
Bohdan Rilnyk died in action. Marta, his wife, and the mother of their two daughters, was just one of those who attended the camp. For her it was an opportunity to rest from all the challenges of daily life, to reflect on God’s Word, and be reminded once again of all His many promises.
For Marta, and the many others who were there, the camps were hugely beneficial times of fellowship – times that those attending were grateful to be a part of. As well as new friendships being established, numerous helpful conversations were begun – ones that will carry on through the chat groups that were set up to provide both a continuing point of contact and an ongoing means of mutual support.
Furthermore, the campers all hope to one day come together again, at a similar event, as they continue to learn to rely on the One who is able to sustain.
