SGA’s Widows’ Project is based on the words of Job 29 v 13 which speaks of making ‘the widow’s heart to sing for joy’.
During last winter, SGA helped several thousand widows across Eastern Europe and Central Asia, making many hearts there sing for joy. It is expected that the number of widows requiring support this winter will greatly increase, especially in Ukraine, due to the prolonged war.
SGA helps several ‘types’ of widows. One category is those women whose husbands expel or abandon them due to their conversion to Christ. In Muslim settings in Central Asia, conversion often leads to such abandonment. One such lady is Kibria. Here she tells her story:
I came to Christ 24 years ago. My husband took all our children from me and kicked me out of his house. At that time, I was pregnant. After a while, I had a son, Isaac. My son and I lived with relatives and spent most of our time at the church. I always prayed in front of my son, talked to him about God, and prayed without ceasing for the salvation of his soul.
Kibria
We are so glad to report that Kibria’s son is now serving the Lord. He and his wife have recently taken the Gospel to a neighbouring town and preached to the Uzbek people there!
Kibria’s nephew asked for a children’s Bible, but his family are not believers. When he told his family about Christ he was severely beaten by his father and brothers. When they found a children’s Bible in his possession, they became even more angry. They took the Bible, and before his eyes tore it into pieces.
Kibria comforts him and tells him that they must endure persecution for the sake of Christ. They pray together for their unsaved relatives.
Such widows will be helped this winter through the SGA Widows’ Project.
Pray that God will keep believing, persecuted widows strong in their faith, and that unbelieving widows will come to Christ through this practical help.
