When dreams come true

Peter Mihalchiuk’s is a face that suits a smile. Which is just as well since this genial Moldovan pastor and longtime friend of SGA, is frequently seen grinning broadly – and all the more so when he describes how his dream has come true.
Peter is a man who evidently delights in the Lord. And so it is, perhaps, no surprise that he has been given the desire of his heart. But what is that godly desire? What is it that, having longed for it for over 30 years, Peter can’t stop smiling about, now that it has finally become a reality?

Simply this – the planting of a church in the small Ukrainian village of Liadova, the village in which his mother came to faith and where he himself was born and spent time as boy. In later years Peter moved to Moldova, but he never stopped dreaming of seeing an evangelical witness in the place he once called home. Now his dream has come true!

This was not as a result of his own evangelistic efforts in the village, which he readily acknowledges never proved particularly successful in Liadova. Instead it has come about as a result of the Lord working through Sergei Buga, one of the numerous pastors whose work is supported by SGA.

Pastor Sergei Buga

Now Peter Mihalchiuk has another dream, one that thirty years ago seemed far from likely.  Back then, there was just one evangelical church for every eighteen villages in Moldova. The collapse of the Soviet Union was followed by a move of the Holy Spirit, and revival came to Moldova. As a result the number of churches increased significantly, so that today there is one evangelical church for every four Moldovan villages.

Peter’s dream however, is to have a church in every village in the country.  So, together with SGA, Peter works to see this dream fulfilled.

Watch this space. If in years to come you see Peter with the most enormous smile on his face, you will not need to ask him the reason why!

‘Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.’
