Joy of Christmas

A Central Asian Ministry

A real Christmas Box!  A box which tells the Christmas story! The purpose of the Joy of Christmas project is to bring joy to the hearts of children living in the poorest circumstances. Many have never received a Christmas gift, and most have never heard the Christmas story of God’s love and the birth of His Son Jesus to bring us the greatest gift – forgiveness of our sins and new life in Him.

The Joy of Christmas box contains small gifts of toys and sweets which delight children everywhere. For many of these children it is the only gift they will receive and it brings such joy. However, as told by the illustrations and writing on the box itself there is the story of a greater joy to be experienced. As the gifts are distributed, there is a precious opportunity to tell of Jesus and His gift of salvation to many who have never heard.

Seryozha’s Story

The Joy of Christmas project can be life-changing. Sergei, a pastor in Central Asia, visited the local school. There he heard a remarkable story of a boy, Seryozha, who was living in the most squalid of surroundings. Teachers visited his home just after Christmas. They found his mother, severely drunk. She had been that way for 4 days. There was no food anywhere and they asked the boy: ‘What have you eaten all these days?’

From under the bed, Seryozha took out the Joy of Christmas gift he received at the Church, and quietly said: “The sweets and cookies that were here, nothing more…” Hearing these words, the teachers could not hold back their tears. They were profoundly grateful for the church’s care for Seryohza.

That is not the end of the story… God has been at work.  Seryohza is now 14 years old and through his contact with the church he has found hope in Christ. His life has been transformed by the greatest gift of all.
