At an SGA online Ukraine update meeting in 2023, Pastor Sergii Sinni spoke of the terrible impact the war in Ukraine is having on young children. These little ones have seen and heard things that no child should ever have to see and hear. Many have forgotten how to smile. Churches are endeavouring to reach out to the children, supporting them through their sadness and seeking to teach them that there is One who loves and cares for them.
Camps and day activities are organised to provide children with opportunities to occupy their minds with good things rather than the daily horrors they have lived through.
Read this account of a 10-year-old girl, Anzbela, living in the Donetsk region of Ukraine:
“Karima (sibling) and I go to Sunday School and attend summer camps. Every night we pray together with my mother, on our knees (she repented this year) and ask for the war to end. Of course, we give thanks to God when He sends us a calm day and sunshine. When I draw war, I show people sitting on a bench and crying, and a flying airplane. And peace – the sun and people sitting on a bench smiling. When the war is over, I want to take our family to the sea in Berdiansk to sit on the shore by the water and play with the waves”.
Please uphold these little ones, so precious to God, in your prayers, and for those believers seeking to support them and their families.
