Kharkiv under attack

Last Friday 10th May, it was reported that Russia had stepped up shelling in the Kharkiv region, with a ground offensive likely.

Since then, Russian forces have advanced further into Ukrainian territory, in particular northeast Kharkiv region near Vovchansk, and other towns. Katia, who lives in Kharkiv sent us the following report:

‘As far as I know, Russian forces tried to break through our line of defence in Kharkiv region. Vovchansk (a small town at the border) is being intensively shelled with artillery and aerial bombs, and people are being evacuated. Staryi Saltiv (the village where our Ukrainian friends are from) is also under threat.’

Katia has requested prayer that the Ukrainian line of defence will be held. She goes on to say, ‘The atmosphere in Kharkiv is tense.’

It has been reported that women, children and the elderly are being evacuated from the Kharkiv area.

Pray for Ukraine

It is a sad reality that the conflict in Ukraine continues to take its tragic toll, and many believers and churches are deeply affected. Pray for many concerned parents as they face the prospect of their son being called -up to serve in the armed forces on the frontline.

Pray for missionaries and pastors who are facing unimaginable circumstances and deal with painful loses. Many are exhausted, feeling the pressures of the war almost unbearable.  Pray that they will be strengthened by the Lord to continue their ministry.

We encourage you to continue to pray for Ukraine and the distressing situation in which many believers are caught up. Pray for those who have the responsibility of preaching God’s Word, as much uncertainty engulfs this country.

Pray for church leaders like Igor Bandura who carry a huge burden of responsibility as they guide the church and minister in this grievous situation.  Pray too for SGA Pastor Boris Masyukov who ministers in the Kharkiv region.

Sadly, the number of widows and orphans are increasing every day due to this war.  Pray for the evangelical church who through SGA’s support can offer vital help.  As young and old come to terms with great loss and feel vulnerable and hopeless may the Gospel of hope and saving grace reach them.
