It has been a joy for SGA to be in partnership with faithful missionary families in Far East Russia since 2018. We thank God for the nine missionary pastors who are sponsored by supporters in the UK and Ireland. God has been blessing their efforts in the Gospel.
Michael, who heads up the aviation programme, travelled to the Jewish Autonomous Oblast to assist Rostislav Shtompel, an SGA-sponsored missionary pastor. Rostislav had a vision to reach 115 villages in his region which had not heard the Gospel.
Recently, we received the news that God had suddenly taken his faithful servant home aged 42. He is survived by his expectant wife, Ekaterina, and 4 children. Pray for safe arrival of this baby, due in the next week.
In his final report which the translator received the day before he died, Rostislav asked for wisdom in raising their two teenage children: David age 16 and Anastasia age 14.
He also expressed his grateful thanks for the extra funds that SGA sent due to the rising cost of living.
He then went on to outline his plans. “Everything is well in the family. We prepared for winter, gathered the harvest from our garden, made all the preparations that everything would function when I am away.”
Little did he realise that he would be away, not just on a mission trip but to be forever with his Lord.
“We continue to witness and disciple people in villages. Please continue to pray, dear friends, about organisation of church meetings in the village of Dubovoe. Pray for people in the village of Dubovoe and for a place for our regular church meetings.”
We are thankful for the life and ministry of Rostislav Shtompel. He has fought a good fight, finished the course, and kept the faith. Pray that God will raise up another person with the same vision for souls and passion for the Gospel.
Pray for Ekaterina as she faces the task of caring for and providing for her 5 children. SGA is committed to supporting her financially through our Widows’ Project.
