A Time I Will Never Forget
Summer Mission Trips in Poland and Uzbekistan
The first was to Central Asia, where the team served alongside local brothers and sisters at a camp for teenagers and young adults who had no prior contact with the church. Â It gave campers the opportunity to improve their English through the teaching of IT and innovation skills, and to get to know the church youth.
The local believers hope that the friendships formed will open doors to share the Gospel with the young people and their families.
The second trip was to Ruptawa, Poland, where a team of seven served in a children’s camp. It soon became apparent that God had brought together a team perfectly equipped with the necessary mix of gifts required for the camp to run smoothly. Furthermore, alongside their various areas of expertise, each member of the team had a genuine desire to share something of the love of Christ with those they all felt privileged to serve.
However, the point of the camp was not simply to entertain the 36 five-to-twelve-year-olds with outdoor games, craft activities and music workshops. With local believers, the team was involved in proclaiming the gospel to the children. Two meetings took place each day, one led by the Polish team, the other by the team from the UK and Ireland, during which they shared Jesus through the singing
of Christian songs, the memorising of Bible verses, and teaching related to stories from both the Old and
New Testament.
“It was a time which I will never forget,” said one team member.
It was wonderful to see the children respond so enthusiastically to what they were being taught and to see some as young as six eager to be chosen to say grace and then, in a packed but respectfully silent dining hall, saying a genuine thank you to God for all that He had provided.
A further highlight for all who travelled overseas was the opportunity to attend
a local church and experience a foretaste of how people of every nation and language will one day unite to praise God.
‘It was a time which I will never forget,’ said one team member.
‘I couldn’t be more appreciative to be a part of the trip,’ said another. A third, having expressed her joy at serving, added, ‘Although the week was busy, it went too quickly’.Â
Pray that both trips will bear fruit of eternal value over the coming years.
