No gifts
at Christmas!
For many children in Central Asia this is a reality. Through the Joy of Christmas project gift boxes with toys and sweets are given to children, bringing great delight. Yet the box offers more. It is illustrated with the story of Jesus’ birth, and as the boxes are distributed—whether at special meetings or in family homes—they provide opportunity to share the greatest gift of all, salvation through Christ.
At the beginning of one meeting nine-year-old Leo asked, “What are we actually celebrating today?” For many children and their parents who bring them, it is the first time they will hear about Jesus.
SGA has supported the Joy of Christmas project for several years. Together with our Gospel partners, 19,000 gift boxes were given to children in Central Asia and Armenia last year. We thank God that this ministry continues to grow and is being greatly used in the spread of the Gospel.
Last year SGA was able to help sponsored workers in Moldova and Ukraine participate in the Joy of Christmas project, providing gifts and sharing the Gospel with children and their families.

Project is changing lives
Seven-year-old Vika stepped timidly into the church, wearing an old, worn coat. Outside the frost was severe; at home the cupboard was empty. Her mother counted every small coin, so Vika had not dreamed of sweets or gifts. A neighbour had invited her to the Christmas celebration, and curiosity overcame her shyness.
Inside she heard songs about the Child who came to bring light, and watched the Christmas story come alive. For the first time Vika heard that Jesus loves children, even those without beautiful clothes or expensive toys.
At the end Pastor Vladimir handed her a bright box. Inside were chocolates, marmalade, and wafers. Vika held it close, feeling valued and loved, as a tear rolled down her cheek. Life changed that day for Vika. From that day she knew Bethel Church was a family, and Jesus was her loving Saviour. Now every Sunday she hurries to the service, knowing that Jesus hears her prayers, and that Christmas lives in her heart always.
The focus was not only on giving gifts, but also on building relationships and sharing the message of Christ’s birth and God’s love.

How to get involved
Pray
- Pray for each young person receiving a Joy of Christmas box. Ask God to touch their lives with His Gospel of love and forgiveness.
- Pray for wonderful Gospel opportunities in the Joy of Christmas services and with the contact of the wider family of the young person.
