If as believers we lose sight of the sovereignty of God, or lose confidence in His all-embracing providence, the darkness of these days in which we live will threaten our witness and evangelism, rob us of our Christian joy, and reduce our prayer lives to the mere repetition of words.
Moses reminded the Israelites that God would drive out their most powerful enemies before them as they obeyed and trusted Him. Speaking of the fearful giant Anakim people, Moses declared:‘He Who goes before you as a consuming fire is the Lord your God. He will destroy them and subdue them before you’. (Deut.9:3).
No enemy can withstand the power of our sovereign Lord. That includes the great Enemy of souls, Satan himself.
We have been reminded clearly of this by reports coming to us from our friends in Ukraine, who are witnessing in the chaos of war, violence, and destruction, the salvation of many men, women and young people who have sought and found the peace of God. Their lives have been transformed by new hope in Christ, as they have been freed from sin and its condemnation by the One Who has already conquered the Enemy of souls through His death and resurrection.
The risen and glorified Christ continues to build His Church in war-torn Ukraine, in faith-restricted countries of Central Asia, and in the vast region of Far East Russia where climate and privation, false religion and no religion abound.
With their confidence in God and in a spirit of godly optimism, SGA supported missionaries and Christian workers continue their Gospel ministry, preaching and teaching God’s Word, reaching out to the poor, the widows and orphans, and vulnerable, needy people with humanitarian help and practical support.
Understandably, in recent months our attention has been focussed on the critical Ukrainian situation, and ministry to refugees, but it is good to remember that SGA’s multi-faceted ministry has, by the grace of God, continued unabated in all the lands in which we work.
