To serve the Church among the Slavic nations of the world by assisting it to become fully equipped to fulfil the great commission of Jesus Christ

Camp Hope

Camp Hope Kids

On the edge of a picturesque lake at Sadovoe just 10km from Balti in North Moldova, there is work going on for eternity! Over the summer months almost two thousand children, young people, church leaders and others were able to enjoy the excellent facilities there and the teaching of the Word of God. The children and young people listened to Bible stories and Bible teaching, sang hymns and choruses, learned Scripture verses and took part in quizzes, and of course, expended unbelievable amounts of energy in daily games and recreation! Older teens and adults were instructed in God’s Word, and many engaged in training courses to help them in their various responsibilities as Youth Leaders, Sunday School teachers, and so on. All this took place on a campsite which was once used by Communists to propagate their empty and hopeless atheism.

Child Reading With BibleThis is the fulfilment of a ‘dream’ cherished by the churches of North Moldova for some years. Camp work has been a vital part of their Gospel ministry, but until two years ago, always on borrowed or rented ground. Now the churches have the opportunity to make the Sadovoe campsite their own, a permanent facility which will greatly help their outreach and provide a training ground for the next generation of church leaders. Already the believers have transformed a number of the run-down buildings on the site, so that today there is a well-equipped kitchen, an excellent dining-hall, shower and toilet facilities and some tastefully renovated dormitory houses! During the month of May last, the tasks accomplished included the building of a 400m fence, repair of the roads, repair of the basketball court, and the construction of swings for the children. All this has been achieved through sacrificial financial giving by Moldovan believers and through the voluntary labour of dedicated men, women and young people.

A Camp Co-ordinator has been appointed – Timothy – and he has plunged into the work with a heart and a half! With his practical skills he attends to the fabric of the campsite, and puts his organizational abilities to good use by producing detailed timetables for the many different camps and activities which take place not just in the summer months, but throughout the year. In a recent prayer letter Timothy asked prayer for some particular needs:

That children and young people who have heard the Gospel will come to Christ;

For many unsaved parents, who came to visit their children while at camp;

For the necessary finance to purchase the camp and finally make it the property of the churches.

Camp Hope Front CoverThanks to your generous giving as SGA supporters we have been able to send substantial financial help to our Moldovan brothers and sisters, so that the final prayer topic above may soon be a topic for praise! The ultimate goal of purchasing the site is now within view, and an invaluable tool will soon be in the hands of the believers to continue to make Christ known in that needy part of Moldova.
